I worked the midnight madness sale last night. It's kinda funny, because our store is open 24 hours, so it's not really "special" to have a sale til midnight, y'know? Not like the mall, where normally it closes at 9pm, so to be open an extra 3 hours is an event.
We did have a limited number of items at a pretty good price tho. I hear it was insane earlier in the afternoon. I am *soooo* glad I wasn't there, even tho on my work application I said I wasn't available after 10 pm and somebody clearly ignored that! (it's ok, this time). People were quite angry when we sold out of stuff early. Good thing I got my walnuts yesterday! (I also got a 3lb bag of apples for 99 cents. woohoo! Haven't had apples that cheap since Terminal.)
It's quite a different atmosphere working the late shift as opposed to the early, or regular day/evening shifts. It's "funner". They stick the fun cashiers on the evening shift, and I didn't even have to see the annoying day time cashiers that I try to avoid working with. And a lot of drunk people come in. And they buy more alcohol.
I was out last night bringing in carts from the parking lot just before midnight, and there were a few cars out there with some thugs blasting loud rap music. In Vancouver you think "oh, a bunch of punk-wannabe-gangsters, what idiots" but after a few seconds I remember where I am, and down here these are ACTUAL gang thugs. They were mostly polite to me tho, so no harm done.
I also bagged some famous drummer's groceries last night. Too bad I didn't know who he was until after he left. (not that it would have made much difference). The cashier knew him, and took his visa receipt home (with signature). Not sure that's totally ethical, but whatever. Late shift is a giant party. =)
In other work news, the day I was considering quitting my job to apply at Verizon with Jason (pays double, requires less effort, and is a regular 8-5 job, and also same building as Jason, so we could carpool) The manager asked me again about moving to the service deli. So, looks like I'm getting that promotion. Still not sure exactly when, but he's putting it in motion... so that's good. Did I mention the (some) cashiers are driving me nuts? They like to micro manage, and I'm a self starter who doesn't need to be told what to do, I've already figured it out and am doing what needs to be done effectively, so it's frustrating. There's one who feels the need to show me how to clean the window ledge, or bag oranges. um. yeah. I know a lot of the courtesy clerks haven't had a job before or, come off as a bit lazy sometimes, and I know I look like I'm 14, but really, I can do it!
In other news:
I brined a turkey last night. It made a mess when I was filling the bag (Jason let go, and brine & turkey juice overflowed all over the entire kitchen) but it was yummy.
For American Thanksgiving, I worked in the morning (that entire week was insane) and then we drove 2 hours to Jason's parent's for dinner and video games.
We did not take part in any kind of Black Friday insanity... because I am not insane! (and, I had to work in the morning. even if I wanted to, which I did not, I didn't have time to camp outside of best buy for a week to be one of the first two hundred in the store. bah. crazies!)
On our way home from Pomona there was a line down the freeway of people waiting to get in the parking lot at the outlet center down the street from us. Forget getting into the store, these people lined up overnight to PARK THEIR CARS! insanity!
Jason's dad has been in and out of the hospital a couple of times again. He looked better on thanksgiving tho, so hopefully this is the last time =)
John has also been in the hospital for a long time... mom said he should be out this week, maybe.
Mom had a big bear in her backyard a few weeks ago.... looking in the window. yay for nature!
I saw a possum two nights ago running around our apartment complex. I didn't see his head at first and thought he was a really fat chihuahua. They move like small dogs. I always thought they were a bit slow, and waddle-y.
Our house has drywall! and cabinets! and stuff!!
We broke in over the last couple of weekends to poke around... it's looking good, but a lot smaller than the model! I'm hoping that's just cuz there's no furniture or paint yet... ;)
Our closing date should be the end of Jan. (make your travel plans now! come visit!!)
uh... that's all I can think of for now. Miss you all!

You are insane, what do you mean you're not?!
I'm glad to hear about your adventure in Americaland. Do be careful of the thugs down there. I'm happy to know that you are spending quality time breaking into your house... sounds like fun!
Ehm... just because you are in LA does not mean you should start breaking and entering... !
